The monk seal (Monachus monachus) is one of the most endangered species on the planet. Iconic animal as few subsists in the colony of Cabo Blanco, Mauritania, in the reserve "coast of the seals", where these photos were taken.

This gallery where Miriam Peñalver also shares photos is a small tribute to this phocid whose critical situation is beginning to have a hopeful future thanks to the extraordinary work of CBD Habitat & Annajah, who have been working for more than 20 years for the conservation of the monk seal and its habitats.
